Why Are They Still Looking?

Hello All,

Who do you look to as your savior?

As Christians, our natural response to the question would be Jesus.

But ask yourself honestly; is that true? Are there times when you subconsciously look to another person or thing to save you?

Jesus came to earth as the promised Messiah, the Saviour of the world of sinners. He died on the cross, rose from the grave and ascended into heaven. There are undeniable and solid evidence and eyewitnesses’ testimonies of His resurrection.

And yet, there are still Jews who reject Him and are still awaiting the coming of the Messiah. They are still relying on the blood of bulls, goats (and red heifers) to take away their sins instead of relying on the precious blood of Jesus Christ. They are still looking for eligible priests to carry out the never-ending sacrifices of animals instead of depending on Jesus Christ, the great High Priest who said, ‘It is finished!’

Why Are They Still Looking?

Written in response to those excited over the discovery of a rare red heifer and seeking eligible priests.

Why are they still looking?
Looking for a perfect sacrifice
A red heifer sounds exciting
But would it truly suffice?

Why are they still looking
When Christ is the perfect sacrifice?
He's the once-and-for-all offering
His death has paid sin's full price

Why are they still looking?
Looking for eligible priests
Are we not priests of the King?
The King, the ultimate High Priest

Why are they still looking
When Christ has fulfilled the law?
Will they not turn to the saving
Death of Christ in reverent awe?

Points for Reflection:
[4] For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
[11] And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
[12] But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God.
[14] For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.
(Hebrews 10:4, 11, 12, 14 ESV)
·       Before Jesus came into the world at God’s appointed time, God provided a temporary way of purifying and sanctifying His people through the sacrifices of animals. However, that was not meant to be a permanent solution, for Jesus has fulfilled God’s Word and He is the once-and-for-all sacrifice.
·       In our part of the world and in our culture, animal sacrifices may sound like an unfamiliar notion of salvation.
·       However, our hearts are often looking to other means of salvation.
·       Do you think that doing good works and charity can make you good enough to enter God’s kingdom? We have all sinned and we can never attain the level of perfection that God requires. We can only be cleansed from our sins and saved through faith in Jesus Christ, our perfect substitute, and sacrifice.
·       As Christians, we believe that Jesus is our Saviour. However, He is not only our Saviour but our Lord. Every area of our lives should be surrendered to His lordship. Are there areas of your life that you are withholding from Him? Are you looking to other earthly saviours to save you from your predicaments and emotional longings?
·       Who or what do you depend on for salvation?
·       Look no more but embrace the loving grace and mercy of our Saviour, Jesus Christ!
